Nonsense

mom waves as they
advance down the
field

she knows it’s a
dream but smiles
nonetheless

dad thinks she
can’t hear him
but she can

it is just that their
laughter is louder
than his concern

she mumbles the
words “acre” before
sobbing

he rushes over to
hold her recognizing
a far away gaze

not realizing how
close she really is
to seeing them
once again
